The Association has learned of the death of S/Lt(A) Crispin Anthony Shorter RNVR on 16 February 2014. He leaves a widow, Marjorie and two daughters.

Crispin Shorter served in the Fleet Air Arm in 1954 till 1956, as part of his National Service. It was a period of his life of which he always spoke fondly. He loved the camaraderie and relished the chance to serve the Navy and his country. This experience influenced his working life, giving him a love of ships and the sea and a desire to see the world beyond British waters.
He received training in Portsmouth and Portland aboard HMS Ocean.
Having just graduated from Cambridge with a degree in Latin and Greek, he said he found learning practical subjects like seamanship, signals and naval procedure alongside the rigorous training that service in the Navy entailed, new and exciting.
In 1955 he qualified as an Observer and was stationed at Eglinton, Northern Ireland. He was demobbed in 1956 and a few years later accepted a job in Malaysia, in a remote port town trading rubber. He later moved to Singapore and worked in the container shipping business. It was in this bustling, growing port-city that he met and married his wife Marjorie and had 4 daughters. He worked in the container shipping industry for 35 years, rising up the ranks to run the Asian operations of a Norwegian shipping firm. On retirement in 1993 he and his family returned to England and lived in Suffolk. He died at home, surrounded by his family on February the 16th 2014 after a year long battle with cancer.
