Four helicopters from 820 Naval Air Squadron, as well as their air crews and engineers, departed from RNAS Culdrose today to join the carrier strike group assembled around HMS Prince of Wales.
They join a flight from 814 Naval Air Squadron which has already been with the carrier group as it prepares for Exercise Strike Warrior off the coast of Scotland.
Two anti-submarine warfare and two airborne surveillance and control Merlin Mk2 helicopters launched at midday into the blue Cornish sky to begin their journey north.
820 Naval Air Squadron is the Merlin Helicopter Force unit dedicated to protecting the UK’s aircraft carrier strike groups.
