In his own words:

After ordination to the priesthood in 1981 and the completion of a postgraduate degree in Theology in 1982, I moved into the presbytery at Kettering, one of 3 priests in the parish. In 1985, I joined the Royal Navy as a Chaplain, and over 26 years have visited 70 ports in 50 countries in frigates, destroyers and aircraft carriers. My ships have been involved in policing no-fly zones over the former Yugoslavia and Iraq; combating drug-smuggling in the Caribbean; anti piracy patrols off the Horn of Africa and in the South China Sea; protecting the Falklands; and the evacuation of British Nationals from the Lebanon. I have found it a real privilege to be inserted into a ship’s company and to minister among sailors and marines to whom I can only take off my hat.

In 2007 I became the Principal Catholic Chaplain in the Royal Navy, a Director of the Naval Chaplaincy Service and Vicar General of the Bishopric of the Forces.
