The Association has learned of the death of Lt Cdr Roy William George Box RD RNR. Born 6 October 1930, Roy passed away at home in Surrey in early November 2013.

The funeral will take place at 1400 on Thursday 9th January 2014 at Chichester Crematorium.

Roy learnt to fly with the Fleet Air Arm during National Service 1952-1954 during which he was promoted Sub Lt(A) RNVR. After National Service he flew Fireflies and Gannets from RNAS Ford. However his flying career was cut short when the RNVR squadrons were disbanded in 1957. Subsequently he was attached to HMS President and served in the Naval Control of Shipping branch until 1989.
In civilian life he was a chartrered engineer with the Central Elictricity Generating Board working in both the generating and transmission departments in the South Eastern Region and later at CEGB’s head office.
In the latter part of his career he ran his own consultancy, specialising in the design, installation and management of Quality Systems to meet the requirements ISO 9000. He was C.Eng, MIEE, MIMechE, MBIM and Comp RAeS and later gained a degree in Social Sciences and History from the Open University.
In retirement he much enjoyed the social fellowship of a number of maritime organisations in London being a regular attender at the Naval Club, the RNR oficers’ Dining Club, the RNR Yacht Club and HMS President Retired Officers Association.
