The Association has learned of the death of Lt Cdr Paul A Waterhouse.
Dear supporters and friends of the Navy Wings Sea Vixen and Phantom community,
It is with great sadness that I am writing to let you know that Lt Cdr Paul Waterhouse Royal Navy, passed away peacefully on 24 June 2020.
Paul joined the Royal Navy in 1958 as a Sea Venom, Sea Vixen and Phantom Observer flying off Victorious, Centaur, Eagle and Ark Royal. After two operational tours in Sea Vixens he flew Phantoms on a two year exchange with the US Navy in Miramar California and embarked in the USS Forrestal. Later he helped form the Phantom Intensive Flying Trials Unit 700P NAS at Yeovilton in 1968. In May 1969 he was the first in the Royal Navy’s team of three 892 NAS Phantoms to beat the world speed record for flying across the Atlantic during the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race. The Head of the Team was the then Captain Ray Lygo.
Paul was a well respected instructor, the last SOBs on 899 and a good friend to many. He will be much missed and it is very sad that current restrictions will preclude many from paying appropriate respects at this time. Paul’s funeral is at Woking Crematorium on Thursday 23 July at 14.00 and the family hope to hold a memorial service at a later date when we are through the current crisis. John is entering a team in the Fleet Air Arm Charity Shoot in aid of Navy Wings on 15 Sep 20 in memory of his father. This healthy, safe, outdoor sporting and social event at the Royal Berks Shooting School is open to all and is a great opportunity to spend a day with old friends smashing a few clays in the beautiful Berkshire countryside!
