The Association has learned of the death of Lt Cdr John Phillips Martlew RN on 25 January 2017.

Martlew John Phillips (Lt. Cdr. RN ret’d) died suddenly on 25th January 2017 after developing complications after an earlier fall. Beloved brother of David Charles, brother-in-law of Diana, uncle of Johanna and Sara, and great uncle of Jack, William and Harry. The Funeral to take place 16th February 2017 at 3.40 p.m. at Rosehill Crematorium, Cantley, Doncaster, DN4 6NE. Family flowers only but donations, if desired, to RNLI. Whilst flying Westland Whirlwind XL 876 of 737 Squadron Portland on 20 March 1961 the aircraft suffered a suspected sonar gear fire in the rear of the cabin while dunking and ditched 3m off Portland Harbour breakwater. Lt J P Martlew, S/L P G Robertson & LS J A Fowler all OK.
