The Association has learned of the death of Lt Cdr David Richard Monro Gregory RN. He died at home in Edinburgh on 20 October 2013 and leaves a widow, Jill.

Richard was a GL officer specialising in aviation and was a member of 849 Squadron flying Gannets before being transferred to Sea Vixens and 892 Squadron, suffering an accident in 1967 in which his Observer was killed. Richard was an extrovert and eccentric character, well known when he had radio problems, for writing a note and putting it in his flying boot and throwing it from the aircraft to land beside the Master of the RFA he was trying to contact.
On losing his leg in 1967 there were other ways in which his character emerged and he became First Lt of a Tribal although he found it too difficult to manage. He left the service and joined Aberdeen University to study law, he qualified and was CEO of a Housing Association until suffering with medical problems. He had been fairly restricted since 1967, but still managed to canoe near his highland croft. He was always keen on naval matters and very erudite.
A Service of Thanksgiving will take place at 1230 on Monday 28th October 2013 at Christ Church, Morningside, Edinburgh.
