Phil Moore remembers:
He was an old style Naval aviator who had flown most things that abounded in days gone by both fixed wing and rotary. One of his jobs was to go and set up the fighter training school in Australia flying sea furies. He was somewhat amused at his selection for this post as he had never flown a fighter in combat. Typical of those far off days you just got stuck in and made it happen. I don’t know a great deal of his service career but when he left he joined C& A as a trainee manager and after a few years ended up running the firm. He was a member of the Fleet Air Arm Squadron and a very generous supporter of the gliding scholarship scheme. He was also, along with Ray Lygo, one of the founder members of the St Vincent Association. Although in poor health in latter years he was full of spirit and regularly came into Lee on Solent Airfield when the gliding course was on to encourage whoever it was that he had sponsored.
