Lieutenant (A) Gordon Edgar Dunning 04/02/24 – 10/07/13
Gordon Dunning was born in 1924 in Eastbourne , East Sussex. When he left school , he entered the Midland Bank for a short time at the beginning of the war , before leaving when old enough , to enlist in the Fleet Air Arm , and train as a pilot of Barracudas. He was in Canada , and also Burma and Ceylon. We have a photograph of Barracuda 2 Squadron on HMS Victorious , 831 Squadron group , with the British East Indies Fleet , June 1944 , Trincomalee , Ceylon . He counted his wartime colleagues as very special , and attended the annual reunions in London until too frail.
After the war , he returned to the Midland Bank in Eastbourne and then worked his way from a junior , to finally Manager of Poultry and Princes Street in the City of London.
He returned to Eastbourne on his retirement , with his wife , Kathleen , and spent many years there , happily attending county cricket , and serving in many capacities on local and national committees for charities and for the Anglican church.
He has died aged 89 , and leaves two daughters and their families.
