I recently visited the Helicopter Museum at Weston-Super-Mare. (The Helicopter Museum, Locking Moor Road
Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, BS24 8PP)
I was shown around by one of their engineering volunteers who lives locally and helps to restore the aircraft. This was Alan Whitfield, who is also ex FAA. Alan was an Electrical Artificer (Air), which was my initial employment in the RN, prior to joining Dartmouth in 1967.
The highlight of my visit was being reunited with a Wessex III which I last flew at RNAS Portland, whilst completing my OFT in November 1969. This was Wessex XM328.
It was interesting to review the instrumentation, switches and flying controls, compared with some of the latest aircraft being manufactured today.
