The Commando Helicopter Force’s Aviation Combat Support Squadron (ACSS) has taken part in Exercise Green Reminder on Salisbury Plain.
The purpose of the exercise was to develop and refine tactics and continuation training in providing Forward Arming and Refuelling Points in the field. ACSS Royal Marines with their fuel tankers tactically refuelled helicopters whilst under the watchful eyes of their colleagues in Force Protection who were mounted in Jakal light armoured vehicles.
A team from the Mobile Air Operations Team also provided aerial reconnaissance using drones to create 3D mapping of potential FARP locations and target areas.
During the exercise Aviation Task Force 2 deployed onto the Plain on Exercise Orion Spear to practice command and control of aviation operations in the field. They tasked Commando Wildcat from 847 NAS and Commando Merlin Mk4 from 845 NAS to conduct operations whilst ACSS provided tactical FARP’s to resupply the aircraft.
