HMS Sultan was honoured to participate in the unveiling of a commemorative stone at Solent Airport marking the rich legacy of HMS Daedalus as a Royal Naval Air Station (1939-1996).
Our Commanding Officer, Captain Mark Hamilton, represented Sultan alongside Commander Megan Ashton, highlighting the direct connection between our establishments.
“It’s a privilege to represent HMS Sultan at this important commemoration. The legacy of HMS Daedalus lives on through the engineering training we deliver today at Sultan. The dedication and innovative spirit shown by those who served here during World War II and beyond continues to inspire our current generation of engineers and technicians,” said Captain Hamilton.
The ceremony featured displays from Navy Wings Charity, including the world’s oldest airworthy Swordfish – a fitting tribute to the station that launched 435 sorties on D-Day and played crucial roles in operations against the Italian fleet at Taranto and the German battleship Bismarck. HMS Sultan is proud to continue the tradition of naval aviation engineering excellence that began at Daedalus.
