Survival Equipment Technician William Matthews has set himself the serious challenge of running from the Scottish Border Gretna Green to Portsmouth in an astonishing 13 days starting this Sat 5th Oct.
A grand total of 667km/414 miles! Which works out as marathon and a bit every day (51km/31.8miles per day)! The journey will be long and difficult. In daylight and darkness, Will will be navigating country lanes, busy roads, and relentless hills accompanied only by October weather as he tackles this challenge alone.
In the long lone moments of sore feet and heavy legs, there is one person Will will be thinking of, his mum.Will’s mum, Lorna Matthews has been courageously battling stage 4 oesophageal cancer for the past two years. Despite enduring countless rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, the cancer remains unyielding. Their next hope lies in a promising new treatment. However this treatment comes at a significant cost amounting to just under £18,000.This is Wills chance to contribute to this cost and push himself to the limits.
Will enjoys fitness and sports including Brazilian jiu jitsu; however, Will hasn’t run a marathon before. So although fit, this will be a challenge to say the least.
