The Association has learned of the death of Cdr Lionel Stuart Barry OBE RN on 1 June 2018 after a long struggle with cancer.  He lived in Australia and leaves a widow, Vreny and son, Daniel.

From Records

Stuart was an AEO serving on HM Ships Victorious, Ark Royal and Hermes.  He was A/AEO of 893NAS 1964/65 and AEO of 814NAS 1973/74.

Bill Daysh remembers:

Before he retired, Stuart served as the Cdr A/E of Ark Royal during the Falklands War, but we become close friends when we served together in MARTSU at Lee, in 1966-69. On retirement and prior to moving his family to Australia he first took an executive position with a UK company that ran a fleet of helicopters ferrying workers and supplies to North Sea oil rigs.

Stuart was a great hockey player, a gentleman, and a committed officer with a strong sense of duty and a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The attached image, taken at a Daedalus Wardroom dinner event while we were with MARTSU, shows Stuart on the right with his wife, Vreny. I am with my wife, Jean, on the left.
