The RAF Mountain Rescue Association, formed 30 years ago, has copies of numerous call-out reports (Report A) which, although brief do list “Other SAR Forces Involved” and for the RAF Leuchars and RAF Kinloss Teams 819 NAS was regularly listed. Because the Report A’s are brief a lot is left out often because the author simply does not have the full picture-sound familiar? For example, on 9th August 1995 Rescue 177 winched a stretchered casualty from Glen Etive and the MRS report stated, inter alia,
“A very good piece of flying by Rescue 177 when the aircraft was fully committed enabled the casualty to be uplifted in the long winching operation. Ground parties retreated from the gully and the incident was terminated at 1645.”
I would be delighted to hear from any member of 177’s crew that day to get their side of the story.
The author of the Report A has provided me with additional ‘flesh’ to what was a 3 day SAR incident with a happy ending, it would be great to get 177’s input please.
