Congratulations to civil servant Jill Almond who is retiring after 41 years of service.
Jill started her Civil Service career in 1983 before moving to Yeovilton in 1986. Jill worked in various departments across the station; RN Air Stores Demand Centre, Director Naval Aviation Support, Aircraft Support Executive, DHSA, DE&S and HMS Heron.
In these departments Jill worked many roles from Integrated Logistic Support, Security Officer, Information Management, and Finance Manager (only to name a few!).Jill worked her way up from Admin Assistant to Senior Executive Officer one of the highest civil servant positions on the station.
For the past 11 years Yeovilton has been in safe hands with Jill as the Corporate Business Manager. Jill said, ‘I have enjoyed the variety of roles and the fact all of my jobs bring something different every day. I would like to think I have offered advice and guidance to those new in post and tried to be an advocate for Civil Service and the knowledge and experience they can bring to the party.’
Some of Jill’s career highlights include, previous ships visits especially to Gibraltar when both HMS Illustrious and Invincible were in, and a very memorable night in the Hole in the Wall! Taking part in an exercise with SBS and gaining a Chief of Defence Material Commendation.Jill said, ‘The people here on station are some of the most dedicated and hard working despite the difficult conditions they encounter and it has been a pleasure to play a role in supporting activities here where I can. I have a lot of memories invested here and I am sad to go, but equally everyone knows when a new broom needs to sweep clean!’
